Session met in a stated meeting on December 2 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. The following business was transacted:
- Heard a status update from the More Light Task Force. The first phase of the More Light discernment process (a series of Sunday School classes and Lunch and Learn opportunities) went well with good engagement from the congregation. Next steps are planned as follows:
- Throughout February and into March, Ruth Stiedinger, Lisa Ward, and Alan Bancroft will lead a book discussion about Unclobber: Rethinking Our Misuse of the Bible on Homosexuality. This book explores the six bible passages that are usually used to make claims about homosexuality. It also explores themes of hospitality and how to faithfully move toward being more inclusive, affirming, welcoming, etc.
- The Task Force will host one more Lunch and Learn to summarize the process and to provide members of the CPC community a chance to ask questions, raise concerns, share hopes, and generally participate in the process of discernment. This is planned for Sunday, March 16.
- The Task Force’s goal is to make a final recommendation to the Session in April.
- Firmed up plans to hold Ordination/Installation Sunday on January 12 for the new slate of CPC officers, elders and deacons.
- Heard a status update on pledges in support of CPC’s 2025 operating budget. Session would like to thank everyone who has returned a 2025 Planned Giving commitment. We kindly ask that remaining Planned Giving commitments be returned as soon as possible so we can confirm our mission and ministry plans for 2025.
