Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a quiet, confidential ministry designed to provide one-to-one compassionate listening and ongoing support to those individuals experiencing loss or transition in their lives, such as the death of a loved one, illness, unemployment or divorce.

The Reverend David Voss, CPC’s beloved late Pastoral Associate, helped to begin the Stephen Ministry program at CPC in 2001. Stephen Ministers are those lay caregivers in our congregation who have been selected and trained to provide this compassionate Christian care. Currently, CPC has 22 active Stephen Ministers, led by a team of Stephen Leaders.

The non-denominational, international program requires Stephen Leaders to undergo a week of intensive training, and all Stephen Ministers to complete a 16-week training program in skilled listening and providing compassionate care led by Stephen Leaders. Many unseen “Care Partners” have received ongoing, often weekly, confidential care from our Stephen Ministers during life’s transitions and losses.

“My Stephen Minister is more than a trusted friend. In her presence, I experience God’s grace. I feel cared for, strengthened, and supported. She is truly a gift.”
