84 Creator of the Stars of Night

Creator of the stars of night, your people’s everlasting light,
O Christ, redeemer of us all, we pray you, hear us when we call.

When this old world drew on toward night, you came, but not in splendor bright,
Not as a monarch, but the child of Mary, blameless mother mild.

At your great name, O Jesus, now all knees must bend, all hearts must bow;
All things on earth with one accord, like those in heaven, shall call you Lord.

To God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit, Three in One,
Praise, honor, might, and glory be from age to age eternally.

Devotion

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. God separated the light from the darkness with two great lights, the sun and the moon! He created the stars and set them in the heavens. Mankind has been reaching and searching for the stars ever since.

Spanning the ages, the ancient mariners, dating from 3000 to 1100 BCE on the Isle of Crete to Christopher Columbus in 1492, used celestial navigation to chart their courses across the sea.

A trip to Mystic Seaport in Connecticut,  a working seafaring village, is a marvelous vacation destination to explore and discover how sailors used stars to navigate at night. What an amazing phenomenon! Or you could just stay home and pursue your search.

Lying on a blanket on the driveway is certainly not the most conducive place to "catch a falling star." The invitation read “View the Perseid Meteor Showers – bring blankets – cupcakes served!” What a fantastic way to connect with new neighbors, explore the heavens and have fun.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star"!  Story time for preschoolers inspires joy as chubby little fingers blink open and shut, with their little voices carrying a sweet tune. Children learn to wonder and seek.

"When you wish upon a star makes no difference who you are"!  After dark with one headlight beaming, a golf cart filled to the brim with four giggly grandchildren, two happy mothers and one delighted gran – scooting around Emerald Isle in search of and exploring the mysterious night sky.

Sky View Light – 28 years later, the neighbors are relaxing in their camp chairs, a fire pit ablaze with warmth. Blankets are wrapped around us not beneath us. With wonder and amazement and holding our smart phones above us, we explore the heavenly realms! Aah! Constellations! Saturn! Jupiter! Venus! Look! The Big Dipper! Polaris! The Moon!

"All things on earth with one accord, like those in heaven shall call you Lord"!  The Star of Bethlehem, so luminous in the sky, lit the way! The Magi, great astrologers, the scriptures foretold, studied the stars and brought their gold...

What star or stars do you follow? The STAR will lead the way!
