Sponsored by the Community Partnerships team, this is a great time of service and fellowship.

We’ll join together to shop for groceries and supplies, prepare meals, make blankets, paint a kitchen for the Carying Place, assemble care and snack kits and quite a bit more. I am thankful for the opportunity God has given me to share my faith and nursing background in the midst of the Covid pandemic. Some of you have asked what did this year when I wasn’t able to provide care in person. I thought I would give you a brief summary.

Since I came aboard, I’ve been privileged to ‘know’ many of you, if only by email, phone call, or zoom. Even in this less than personal way, you have trusted me enough to share your personal joys and concerns and those of your family, friends, and others. With your permission, I have shared these weekly at our Pastoral Care Ministry team meeting so that they could be known to the wider Cary Presbyterian Church congregation. Also attending the monthly Deacon and Stephen Ministry meetings offers me a chance to see how I might assist the congregation and others. With the information I learn, I am able to follow up in different ways including now – when possible and appropriate -- through home visitation and accompaniment to medical offices.

While being a presence and offering support and advice is perhaps the most important part of my ministry, there are a number of other valued responsibilities which I undertake. One of these is education and the coordination of educational training to the deacons, Stephen Ministers, and member and friends of the church community. For example, this past April, we offered hospice and end of life educational training through Transitions Life Care to our Deacons and Stephen Ministers. Another has been bringing health opportunities to the church. For example, in my tenure, the church has sponsored two drive-thru flu shot clinics and a blood drive. I would be remiss if I did not mention that at Cary Pres we have a Medical Loan Closet (which provides equipment to help make day-to-day life easier for those needing a bit of assistance), two AED devices, and many first aid kits throughout the church which I oversee and maintain. Finally, of course, it goes without saying that while I may be responsible for offering, coordinating and maintaining such programs, activities, and resources, it is a number of dedicated deacons, Stephen’s Ministers, other member volunteers, and staff which ably assist, without hesitation, in these endeavors. Thanks be to God!

Now what …. If you ever need assistance, advice, prayers, or support, call on me. I can be a resource as situations arise concerning the health of you or others. These may include better understanding your medical conditions, medications, and diet as well as being and advocate or one who accompanies you to your doctor or other medical professional. I also can help assess your home to ensure that it meets your medical needs; assist in finding homecare, nursing facilities, or doctors (or offering you the resources to find that information out.); and provide or coordinate education in many forms and opportunities for growth and knowledge. I’m always open to suggestions for educational programs. And, of course, I’m available to just talk, pray, or be at your side no matter whatever stage of life you are in.

Peace and blessings,
Chris

From politics and science, to academia and technology, the Bible's sacred copy became the key that unlocked the Western mind.

Through Mangalwadi's wide-ranging and fascinating investigation, you'll discover:

What triggered the West's passion for scientific, medical, and technological advancement

How the biblical notion of human dignity informs the West's social structure and how it intersects with other worldviews

How the Bible created a fertile ground for women to find social and economic empowerment

How the Bible has uniquely equipped the West to cultivate compassion, human rights, prosperity, and strong families

The role of the Bible in the transformation of education

How the modern literary notion of a hero has been shaped by the Bible's archetypal protagonist

Journey with Mangalwadi as he examines the origins of a civilization's greatness and the misguided beliefs that threaten to unravel its progress. Learn how the Bible transformed the social, political, and religious institutions that have sustained Western culture for the past millennium, and discover how secular corruption endangers the stability and longevity of Western civilization.

Endorsements:

"In polite society, the mere mention of the Bible often introduces a certain measure of anxiety. A serious discussion on the Bible can bring outright contempt. Therefore, it is most refreshing to encounter this engaging and informed assessment of the Bible's profound impact on the modern world. Where Bloom laments the closing of the American mind, Mangalwadi brings a refreshing optimism." (Stanley Mattson, founder and president, C. S. Lewis Foundation)

"Vishal Mangalwadi recounts history in very broad strokes, always using his cross-cultural perspectives for highlighting the many benefits of biblical principles in shaping civilization." (George Marsden, professor, University of Notre Dame; author, Fundamentalism and American Culture)

"The Indian perspective is a breath of fascinating fresh air for American readers. I wish and pray that it finds readers willing to have their minds shaken and their hearts, yes, their hearts, stirred as well." (James W. Sire, author, The Universe Next Door and Habits of the Mind)

"This book is well overdue! If there is one book that has shaped Europe's art, architecture, commerce, education, ethics, family life, freedom, government, healthcare, law, language, literature, music, politics, science, social reform, and much more, it is the Bible. Yet biblical illiteracy is almost universal in Europe today. We need Vishal's clear, prophetic, Eastern voice to jolt us back to reality before our rich biblical heritage slips beyond our grasp." (Jeff Fountain, director, Schuman Centre for European Studies, the Netherlands)

"Vishal's book is one of a kind-vast in scope, penetrating in its depth, and prophetic in its message. If we fail to listen and recover the importance of the Bible in personal and public life, then the sun may set on the West. This book is a tract for our times and a must-read for anyone concerned with impacting our culture." (Art Lindsley, author, C. S. Lewis's Case for Christ)
